National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee Makes a Statement Regarding so-called PDF Terrorists' Attack on Pilgrims at Kim Mon Chaung Bus Terminal of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda

         The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee issued a statement that it strongly condemns this disgusting and brutal attack on the pilgrims visiting the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Thadingyut occasion because the KNU/KNLA, being an NCA signatory, is responsible to take care of and protect the public despite the disagreement with the Tatmadaw, and it urges the KNU/KNLA to investigate and take punitive actions openly and transparently in accordance with the law against those who committed such a terrorist attack.

Statement

13 October 2022

1.     The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee has learnt three pilgrims were killed and 19 others injured, after the KNU/KNLA Brigade 1 and PDF terrorists, subordinates of NUG and CRPH, arrived at the Kinmunchaung bus terminal of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Kyaikto Township of Mon State by car from Hsaungnainggyi and launched a brutal attack using heavy and small weapons for no reasons at about 10:45 am on 12 October.

2.     Being an NCA signatory, the KNU/KNLA is responsible to take care of and protect the public despite the disagreement with Tatmadaw, and the committee strongly condemns this disgusting and brutal attack using heavy and small weapons on the Kinmunchaung bus terminal, where the pilgrims were waiting for the bus to visit Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Thadingyut festival.

3.     They breached the provisions in Chapter 3 of NCA: Protection of Civilians and so serious action shall be taken against those who launched brutal attacks on unarmed people.

4.     The Hsaungnainggyi in Kyaikto Township where they came from to attack the Kinmunchaung bus terminal of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda is under the control of KNU/KNLA Brigade 1. Regarding this attack, the KNU/KNLA is responsible as they support the terrorist acts by conducting military training and terrorist training to PDFs. It is obvious that they are mainly responsible according to the comments of pilgrims, locals and evidence.

5.     Therefore, the statement is issued urging the KNU/KNLA to investigate the KNLA Brigade 1 members and PDF terrorists, subordinates of NUG and CRPH, and take actions openly and transparently in line with the law for their attack that left three dead and 19 wounded.
