Discussions Made on Prevention of Appointment of Labours under MoU as Thailand Employers Appoint Migrant Workers without MoU

Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Labour U Win Shein met Thailand Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin and officials in Bangkok, Thailand on 6 October. During the meeting, Deputy Minister for Labour U Win Shein discussed as follows:

  • The deputy minister thanked the Thai Employment Department for the invitation to inspect the opening of CJ extension camps in Thailand based on the request of the Thai Labour Minister to issue certificates of identity (CIs) to non-evidence Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.
  • During this tour, the two countries’ cooperation in labour affairs would have positive results.
  • In order to fulfill the high demand of employees for the Thai employers and get job opportunities for the Myanmar migrant workers during the COVID-19 period, a total of 56,237 Myanmar workers left for Thailand under the MoU system during the period from 10 May to 29 September.

During the meeting, the both sides discussed to prevent the cancellation of the contract after singing agreement, prevent the appointment of employees without MoU as the Thai employers are doing so, issue the notification in which Visa fees for the employees under MoU should be reduced to 500 Baht as much as possible, and carry out the process of issuing CIs by the designated time, it is reported.
