A coordination meeting on accuracy of voter lists and allotments of polling stations in regions/states was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 5 October.
At the meeting, Union Election Commission-UEC Chairman U Thein Soe highlighted as follows:
- Arrangements should be made for the upcoming election to be a systematic, free, fair and trustworthy one.
- UEC has carried out the actions that should be done in line with the law including the first point -scrutiny of voter lists mentioned in the five-point road map of the State Administration Council.
- According to the fifth point, preparations are being made to hold the free and fair multiparty democratic elections in line with the 2008.
- The relevant region/state election sub-commissions should cooperate with the departments concerned to be an accurate population for basic voter lists and update monthly.
- Allotting polling stations and fulfilling polling booth materials must be carried out continuously. It is necessary to make preparations in relevant regions/states by organizing staff, adding required staff and training them.
During the meeting, the officials reported on compiling voter lists, planning for allotting polling stations, and fulfilment of polling booth materials. The UEC Chairman then supplemented on the reports and fulfilled the needs.
The meeting was attended by UEC members, officials from the Commission office, staff from the election sub-commissions in regions, states and Union Territory. It was the coordination meeting held to make necessary preparations prior to the election.
