On 2 October, 60-year-old Daw Myint Myint San, Maungdaw district education officer, who was at the two-storey building of Maungdaw district education officer’s office located next to the Buthidaung-Maungdaw road in Myothagyi ward of Maungdaw township of Rakhine state, was brutally stabbed to death by three terrorists.
With heinous intentions to disrupt the children’s rights to education; create uneducated classes in society; and seek the support of people with terror by making them very frightened, NUG and their followers of PDF terrorists are using various acts of destructions against education sector. Their acts include intimidating and coercing students, teachers and parents; abductions and killings of students, teachers and parents; arson and bombing attacks on education facilities; setting fire to teaching/learning aids and textbooks; and taking them forcibly. Therefore, the entire people are disgusted by their acts of terrorism and condemn them. According to the provisions of Geneva Conventions and the international law, AA terrorists’ intentional attacks against non-military targets of schools and non-combatant targets of teachers and students amount to war crimes.
Security forces are conducting necessary investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the incident and take effective actions against them in accordance with the law.
