Myanmar Designated as Dialogue Partners in Shanghai Cooperation Organization

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held at Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 16 September, Myanmar, UAE, Kuwait, Maldives and Bahrain have been designated as dialogue partners in SCO.

The SCO was founded in Shanghai, China in June 2001 with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, totalling six countries. Later, India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus included in the SCO. So, there are 10 membership countries. The dialogue partners in SCO are Sri Lanka, Turkey, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Armenia, Ehypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, totalling nine countries. Moreover, there are two observer states which are Afghanistan and Mongolia.

At the Summit, the SCO will implement the extension of membership countries and focus on the basic principles for the food security and handle key issues to counterterrorism.
