The 40th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Associated Meetings were hosted by Cambodia through videoconferencing on 15 and 16 September 2022. Union Minister for Energy U Myo Myint Oo joined the events.
At the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting, the Ministers frankly discussed on further cooperation work on the development of infrastructure among the ASEAN countries, ASEAN and dialogue countries/ members. Then, The Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of 40th AMEM was released.
The Associated Meetings of 40th AMEM: ASEAN and the US Energy Ministers Meeting, ASEAN and International Renewable Energy Agency Meeting, ASEAN and International Energy Agency Meeting, 16th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting (EAS EMM) and the 19th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting Plus Three (Japan, Korea and China) (AMEM+3) were held.
At the meetings, the Ministers discussed the cooperation work for energy, further cooperation between ASEAN and East Asian countries, ASEAN and Japan, Korea and China, policies and procedures. And then they approved the draft versions the 7th ASEAN Energy Outlook, the 2nd ASEAN Renewable Energy (RE) Outlook, the Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of the 16th EASEMM and the Joint Ministerial Statement (JMS) of the 19th AMEM+3.
During the Meetings, the Union Minister discussed as follows:
- Myanmar is making efforts to meet the goals of the ASEAN energy sector.
- The country also actively participates in Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) Technical and hydrogen-ammonia energy technical activities with the ASEAN countries, ASEAN’s dialogue partners and International Energy Agency.
The Union minister attended the meetings along with Deputy Minister for Energy U Thant Sin and relevant officials. It was also attended by the Energy Ministers of ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners, officials of the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Centre for Energy and international energy agencies and representatives.
