Union Ministers U Wunna Maung Lwin and U Ko Ko Hlaing Explain Guidelines of Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister

      Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin and Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing gave explanations on the guidance of the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister to Myanmar Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives, Consuls-General and Charge d’affaires of embassies in foreign countries, through videoconferencing at Ayeyawady hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 7 September. Firstly, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs clarified the six-month work performance of the Union government as follows:

  • The SAC serves the State’s responsibilities under the 2008 Constitution by laying down the five-point roadmap and nine objectives.
  • It also practises independent, active and non-aligned foreign policy in the political objective and upholds the principles of peaceful coexistence among the nations as our political objective.
  • The Myanmar Embassies in foreign countries are responsible to promote bilateral relations and protect the interests of Myanmar citizens, and so they need to show a sense of duty awesomely.
  • They should respond to and announce promptly the misinformation of foreign countries regarding the actions of the government.
  • The heads of the embassies should supervise for the security of embassies, persons and documents.
  • The role of diplomats in foreign countries is serving as attackers and defenders.
  • As international relations is a broader vision, the heads of embassies is necessary to initiate those processes with strong stance and belief, to protect the fellows under their leadership and supervise to ensure mutual respect.
  • Regarding the work plans on acceptance of displaced persons from Rakhine state, current tasks and work progresses, the situation of the relations between Myanmar and the UN, relations with ASEAN, stance, attitude and activities of the government, were clarified.

      Later, Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing clarified the case being heard at the International Court of Justice, Rakhine state issue, proper progress in foreign countries and facts that needed to be taken into account in international relations and resolving conflicts. It is reported that the permanent secretary and directors-general of the ministry joined the event.
