The Ministry of Labour is coordinating with the relevant local banks to easily transfer the salary of the workers who go abroad for work to their families; to transfer money from bank to bank legally between banks authorized by the Central Bank of Myanmar and banks in the relevant country; to open a saving account in local banks before leaving Myanmar after connecting with the technical issues; to provide awareness activities on the official bank to bank cash transfer procedures.
With regards to the above-mentioned coordination meetings, the Union Minister for Labour, Dr. Pwint Hsan highlighted the following points:
- The Ministry of Labour has permitted workers to work abroad in line with the Law relating to Overseas Employment (1999).
- The Ministry has cooperated with the relevant ministers and region/state governments to ensure safety along the way to Thailandand send workers safely to Thailand under MoU system and the workers were sent since 10 May.Moreover, Foreign employment licensed agencies (Thailand) are necessary to strictly follow instructions, rules and regulations issued by the Ministry.
- Regarding the process of sending workers to Japan, the Ministry has signed the MoU between the two ministries of Myanmar and Japan for sending technical trainees and skilled workers and
- Agencies have to legally transfer the wages of the workers to the families, to solve the problems such as crises between employers and employees in workplaces of respective countries, workplace accidents/ death within 30 daysand take full responsibility for the workers they send from the time they leave until they return to Myanmar.
The Central Bank of Myanmar recorded the remittances under the categories of Malaysia, Thai and Singapore and others since 2014. The amount of remittances to the families has been 6,152.044 million USD until July in 2022 according to the statistics of CBM, it is reported.
