Pre-Election Training for Upcoming Election Opened

The opening ceremony of the on-job training (5/2022) for capacity building of the deputy staff officers to be assigned at the Union Election Commission Office and Sub-commission offices was held at the Sinphyushin hall of the Interrogation and Accommodation Centre (Ywa Taw) in Nay Pyi Taw on 25 August. During the ceremony, the Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) U Thein Soe stressed the following points:

• The trainees need to know the detailed functions of the UEC and elections. The UEC is an organization that has to supervise to hold the elections.
• The functions and mandates of the UEC have already been described in the UEC law. Mainly, there are three duties of the UEC that are to convene free and fair elections, to supervise the political parties to ensure that they conduct in accordance with the law, and to scrutinize electoral objections by organizing election tribunals.
• In holding the election, there are three periods, such as pre-election, election and post-election periods.
• There are a lot of tasks within each period and these procedures are to be carried out continuously as a circle until the next election.
• As deputy staff officers are main assistants for staff officers, they themselves must be known well their duties in their fields so as to provide full support.
• Since the UEC is the major organization that has to take responsibility for the elections, if there were mistakes in the action and undertakings of the commission, it will have impact on the dignity of the commission and the nation as well. He urged all to have skills in their assigned duties to avoid any mistakes.
• Trainees are urged to make known and preparations on the tasks that will have to be carried out during elections.

The opening ceremony was attended by UEC members, officials of the election office and trainees. The training will be conducted from 25 August to 5 September.
