The closing ceremony of on-job service capacity building course No. (4/2022) for staff officers who will serve at the Union Election Commission-UEC and various levels of sub-commission offices was held at the hall of Sin Phyu Shin of Interrogation and Accommodation Centre (Ywardaw) on 19 August.
During the ceremony, the chairman of UEC U Thein Soe highlighted the following points in his speech -
- The upcoming election will alternatively practice the Proportional Representation (PR) system instead of the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system used in previous elections.
- By practicing the PR system alternatively, the votes of the citizens will be less wasted and a highly-capable government can be formed with the participation of representatives from various political parties and all social classes.
- Moreover, political parties of ethnic minorities will also have the right to participate in the legislature and administrative organizations based on the proportion of their votes.
- All of the trainee officers have to do their tasks not just when they are asked to but need to think ahead as good leaders do.
It is reported that UEC members, officials of the UEC office and trainees attended the ceremony.
