On 17 August, security personnel doing security duties at the Ayeyawady Bridge (Yadanabon) checkpoint located in the Tagaung ward of Sagaing town in Sagaing region conducted necessary security check on an express bus by the name of ‘Ar Kar Tha’ running on the Yangon-Monywa road for public safety. At the time, three PDF terrorists in the bus opened fire on some passengers as well as the security personnel, keeping passengers as hostages and using them as human shield. During the incident, two seriously-injured passengers (one male and one female) died in horrifying experience and moreover, two security personnel and five other passengers got injured.
As terrorist were firing at security personnel by keeping passengers as hostages and using them as human shield, the security force members cautiously aimed at and fired back targeting only the terrorists. Therefore, two dead PDF terrorists and one another terrorist alive were arrested along with three pistols, three new assault rifles and ammunition that were secretly carried in the express bus.
At present, PDF terrorists are found out to be committing acts of terrorism by keeping passengers, who are travelling by express buses, as hostages and using them as human shield. Recently, they have carried out a terrorist attack on an express bus from ‘Elite’ bus service as well as a passenger bus from YBS bus service in Yangon region. It is necessary for passengers and bus services to cooperate with security personnel in case they find any suspect objects and movements of terrorists. it is announced to international and local organizations to be aware about and not to abet the acts of NUG and PDF terrorists such as launching attacks against passenger buses, keeping passengers as hostages as well as using them as human shield.
