Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Received a Peace Delegation led by Vice-Chairman (1) of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) Sao Khur Tai

Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a peace delegation led by Vice-Chairman (1) of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) Sao Khur Tai at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw to talk about peace issues on 4 August.

During the peace talk, the Senior General expressed the following points –

  • Efforts of the Tatmadaw in successive eras for ending the internal armed conflicts and paving the path of multiparty democracy,
  • Although people are entitled to enjoy the freedom of expression, and also demand their privileges and needs, such practices are supposed to be done in line with laws.
  • The Hluttaw is the highest body in terms of politics in democracy, and ethnic representatives must further join the political stage of the Hluttaw so as to demand the rights of their regions under the law,
  • Plans to openly discuss demands of the ethnic armed organizations and actual necessary and appropriate points for the regions and the states in the peace talks, needs to hold discussions with a wider scope of knowledge for the sake of the Union,
  • Matters relating to the practice of multi-party democratic system in line with the people’s desire, and building the Union based democracy and federalism.

The Vice-Chairman (1) and party of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) discussed the plan of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) to actively participate in the peace talks, potentials for building the modernized future Union if all ethnic people make utmost efforts in unison, exercising the multi-party democratic system, and expressed their same attitudes for construction of a Union based on democracy and federalism and reported on regional development measures.

Then, the Senior General also discussed that the Tatmadaw has committed to continuously serve as the guardian of the country and is carrying out the tasks under the law, adding that ethnic organizations are required to be under the law, disciplines and democratic practices so as to secure the democracy and federal rights. They frankly exchanged their views on peace and regional development measures.

The peace talk was attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Council members General Mya Tun Oo, Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. The Vice-Chairman (1) of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) was accompanied by Vice-Chairman (2) Sao Khun Seng and Central Committee member Sao Naw Leik.

At the invitation of the Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister, the delegation led by Vice-Chairperson-1 of the Shan State Progress Party-SSPP arrived at the Horizon Lake View Resort in Nay Pyi Taw on 3 August. The peace delegation was welcomed by members of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee and ethnic people from the Department of Fine Arts, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, departmental staff, and pro-peace local residents holding Myanmar miniature flags and signboards bearing “Achieving perpetual peace is the genuine desire of the people”, “Achieving peace is the genuine desire of all citizens”, “Let’s hold talks for peace in the Union”, “Only when ethnic nationals are in unity, it will ensure stability, peace and tranquillity”.
