Republic of the Union of Myanmar National Defence and Security Council Announcement No 2/2022

National Defence and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar held 2/2022 meeting on 31 July and all members of the National Defence and Security Council, including the Pro Tem President, unanimously decided to extend further six months of the declared period of the State of Emergency across the nation under Section 425 of the Constitution.

1. The meeting of the National Defence and Security Council took place at the meeting hall of the National Defence and Security Council at 9:30 am today. At the meeting, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing presented the conditions for the implementation of the five-point roadmap of the State Administration Council, situations where national stability and community peace have been emphasized, situations of meetings and discussions with ethnic armed organizations, and operations of terrorist groups under various names, including PDF, which are committing subversive activities in some regions and states under the instructions of NUG. He also reported on the need to extend the declared period for the State of Emergency across the country under Section 425 of the Consitution in order to continue working to return the country to the path of a peaceful and disciplined multiparty democratic system and to hold multiparty democratic general elections under Section 429 of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

2. Members of the National Defence and Security Council seconded the submissions of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. Then, all members of the National Defence and Security Council, including the Pro Tem President, unanimously decided to extend further six months of the declared period of the State of Emergency across the nation under Section 425 of the Constitution.

3. The information was hereby released that the meeting was attended by Pro Tem President U Myint Swe, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U T Khun Myat, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, special invitees Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe and Joint Secretary of the Council Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo. It is announced that Vice-President U Henry Van Thio has requested a leave of absence due to health reasons.
