Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo Joins 3rd China-ASEAN Justice Forum

With an aim to improve the development of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and further enhance judicial exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, the third China-ASEAN Justice Forum was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, on 20 July and Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo attended the Forum through video conferencing.

At the ceremony of the Forum, the attendees discussed the following points-

  • Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo, Mr Zhou Qiang, Chief Justice of the People’s Republic of China, Chief Justices of 10 ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretary-General delivered opening remarks respectively.
  • The attendees of the ten ASEAN countries frankly exchanged views and took part in the discussions under the theme of establishing a High-Level Judicial Cooperation Platform to Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. 
  • The attendees extensively exchanged opinions in a friendly and practical atmosphere on a variety of topics including “Accelerate the Adaptation of New RCEP Economic and Trade Rules to Provide Judicial Services for Regional Trade and Investment”, “Enhance Intellectual Property Right Cooperation to Improve the International Protection of Intellectual Property Rights”; and “Promote Cross-Border Online Litigation to Provide Judicial Assistance for Pandemic Prevention and Control and Economic Recovery”.
  • They then approved and issued the Nanning Statement of the third China-ASEAN Justice Forum.

The Forum was hosted by the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) of the People’s Republic of China and sponsored by the High People’s Court of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Also present at the Forum together with the Union Chief Justice were the Justices of the Supreme Court of the Union. Deputy Director General U Aung Kyaw Moe and Deputy Director Dr. Moe Thuzar Oo of the Office of the Union Supreme Court also attended and read the papers in the sessions of the Forum, it is reported.
