China donates USD300,000 to Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine received Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai to Myanmar at the Ministry’s meeting hall in Nay Pyi Taw on 30 December, and then the Union Minister received US$300,000 donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

During the meeting, the Union minister said that:

· The received cash donation is planned to use in providing the conducive studies of livelihood for woman-headed households in IDPs located in Kachin state, giving training of disaster response for the representatives from Departments and social societies in Kachin state, and building sports ground in the nursery school of the Ngwe Pyaw (Model) Village located in Myitkyina township.

· Further steps, including repatriation of displaced persons and social harmony activities as well as the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Centre for Social Protection Resources in Nay Pyi Taw will be implemented.

The Chinese ambassador said that:

· The US$300,000 donation is part of an annual US$1 million donation to the peace process in Myanmar, and this is the sixth time.

· The donation is to provide the aids for the agendas of peace, humanitarian, socioeconomic development and displaced persons in northern Myanmar.

Afterwards, the Union Minister returned the Certificate of Honour to the Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai to Myanmar.
