Nearly 300 Tonnes of Silkworm Cocoon were Exported to China per Year

Private companies export nearly 300 tonnes of silkworm cocoons per year to China to increase income and have foreign currency for silkworm raisers in Mandalay region.

Locally, silk threads were purchased from the areas of silk fabrics production to weave threads for making clothes via tender system. Companies have exported tonnes of dried silkworm cocoons and they previously exported dried silkworm cocoons two or three times per year, but have not exported any silkworm cocoon this year due to the pandemic. Although mulberry trees are grown for silk thread, and later, they are grown not only for raising silkworm but also for making dried tea leaves of mulberry leaves which is support for people’s health. It is reported that people eat mulberry wine and jam made from ripen mulberry fruits.
