The 17th press conference of the Information Team of State Administration Council was held at the Ministry of Information on 1 July. The leader of the SAC’s Information Team Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun clarified national and Tatmadaw level internal and external meetings and discussions, the State’s economic and social measures and acts of terrorism of the NUG and so-called PDF terrorist groups. The member of the Union Election Commission U Khin Maung Oo also explained the matters related to the election commission.
The press conference was attended by members of the SAC’s Information Team, representatives of relevant ministries, officials of Tatmadaw Information Team, guests and reporters from local news agencies, daily newspapers, local TV broadcasting stations and local-based foreign news agencies.
The leader of the SAC’s Information Team Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun clarified the following points:
- Attendance of member of the State Administration Council Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo to the 16th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings hosted by ASEAN Alternate Chair Cambodia, his participation in the discussions and the facts in the joint statement issued by ASEAN member States.
- The 34th Myanmar-Thai Border Committee meeting held in Taunggyi on 28 and 29 June, and the talks of Thai delegation led by Lt. Gen. Apichet Suesat who called on Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 June.
- The working visit to Myanmar of the delegation led by H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Special Envoy of the Alternate ASEAN Chair on Myanmar Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, and the matters of Lancang-Mekong cooperation meeting.
- According to the invitation for peace talks, further talks will be held with SSPP and LDU groups as eight ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) out of 10 EAOs who actually wish to restore peace for the local people have held constructive talks from 20 May to 20 June.
- Reopening of universities and colleges and re-invitation of the Government to students, who wish to rejoin the universities honestly for continuing their academic matters, from border regions and unsafe places at home for various reasons.
- Acts of terrorism of NUG and so-called PDF terrorist groups and their connections, and conflicts among Red Shan ethnic, KIA and so-called PDF terrorist group as well as matters related to Ukarihta outpost were clarified with the use of video files and PowerPoint Presentation.
UEC member U Khin Maung Oo also explained action taken against those who participated in vote-rigging process and unlawful acts, checking of ground population to have the complete voter lists, and measures of UEC through PowerPoint Presentation.
As the facts related to the press conference and documentary photos of the activities of UEC were displayed as reference for media, the attendees observed those, it is reported.
