The 10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was held in the Russian Federation from 28 June to 1 July and a Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo attended the forum at the invitation of H.E. Mr Konstantin Chuy-Chenko, Minister of Justice of the Russia Federation.
At the forum, the officials held a discussion on the topic of “State Justice in the Service of a Human”, and Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo served as the Panelist Speaker together with Minister of Justice of the Russia Federation and other legal officials. She presented the following points:
- Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services is entitled to exercise the legislative, executive and judicial powers by himself or by an organization that he participates in under the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the State Administration Council was formed under the Constitution.
- Ministry of Legal Affairs is perseveringly conducting the legal services, justice and legal advocacy for the people.
- The Rule of Law and Justice Coordinating Body has already been formed comprising representatives from Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Myanmar Police Force and Anti-Corruption Committee, and magistrates, lawyers and the Body is taking measures to ensure justice for the people.
- She appreciated the Legal Forum because she got knowledge relating to legal affairs from the discussions of many other countries at the forum. She also believed that International legal cooperation can be enhanced through the forum.
Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo also joined the Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Mr. Konstantin Chuy Chenko, Minister of Justice of the Russia Federation. At the meeting, the Russian Justice Minister made an offer to sign the MoU in order to launch legal research and exchange views and knowledge on legal affairs between the two countries. Then, the Union minister and Union attorney-general welcomed that offer and they openly discussed on the further cooperation in law-related matters between two countries.
After that, Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister and Union Attorney-General also joined the Plenary Session of the forum on the topic of “Laws of the World’s Countries” and participated in the discussions on economic law and sanctions, people and law, international law, digital technology and law reforms and other legal matters.
