The 36th ASEAN Heads of Specialist Anti-Trafficking Unit-HSU Meeting was held through videoconferencing on 28 June. The leader of the Cambodian delegation, who is the Chairman of the meeting, delivered an opening remark.
During the meeting, Commander of the Anti-Trafficking Police Force of the Myanmar Police Force, Police Brig-Gen Myint Htoo, explained Myanmar's Anti-Trafficking efforts as follow:
- The Anti-Trafficking Law enacted in 2005, which is the most important part of the policy and cooperation, was amended in consultation with relevant government departments and organizations and local and international legal experts to be in line with the international standards. A new anti-trafficking law was enacted on 16 June this year to effectively prosecute child trafficking.
- At the 14th Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking-COMMIT and Regional COMMIT Task Force meetings, the matters related to formulation of the National and Cross-Border Referral Mechanism and the extension of the Sub-Regional Plan of Action 2014-2018 (SPA IV) were discussed.
The respective ASEAN member States briefed their efforts to combat human trafficking, HSU Action Plan (2022-2023) (Draft) and the hosting of the 37th Meeting of ASEAN Heads of Specialist Anti-Trafficking Unit-HSU Meeting by Indonesia.
The meeting was attended by representatives led by Commander of the Anti-Trafficking Police Force of the Myanmar Police Force, Task Force leaders and representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat.
