Seized Narcotics Incinerated on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Incineration ceremonies of narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals within a year in Myanmar marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking were held in Mandalay, Yangon and Taunggyi on June 26.

• A total of 16 narcotic drugs and nine precursor chemicals worth over K 316.77 billion (over US$ 171.23 million) including more than 611.57 kilograms of opium, more than 810 kilograms of heroin, more than 47 million ecstasy pills, more than 7,356 kilograms of ICE, more than 316 kilograms of ketamine and more than 116 kilograms of marijuana confiscated from Mandalay region, Sagaing region, Kachin state, and upper and middle part of Myanmar were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Mandalay.
• A total of 26 items of narcotics and seven kinds of precursor chemicals worth over K 356.68 billion (over US$ 192.80 million) including 1.50 kg of opium, more than 162 kilograms of heroin, more than 65 million ecstasy tablets, more than 7,599 kilograms of ICE, more than 1,205 kilograms of opium powder, more than 1,345 kilograms of ketamine, more than 463 kilograms of marijuana confiscated from Yangon region, Ayeyawady region, Rakhine state, and the lower parts of Myanmar were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Yangon.
• A total of 18 kinds of narcotics and 40 items of precursor chemicals worth over K 515.36 billion (over US$ 278.57 million) including more than 2,041.80 kilograms of opium, more than 967 kilograms of heroin, more than 99 million ecstasy tablets, more than 8,697 kilograms of ICE, more than 362 kilograms of ketamine, more than 130 kilograms of marijuana, more than 12 tons of caffeine confiscated from Shan state and Kayah state were destroyed at the ceremony which was held in Taungyi.
• A total of 79 kinds of drug and chemical substances worth over K 1,188.82 billion (over US $ 642.60 million) including more than 2,654.89 kilograms of opium, more than 1,940 kilograms of heroin, over 212 million ecstasy tablets, more than 23,653 kilograms of ICE, more than 1,205 kilograms of opium powder, more than 709 kilograms of marijuana, more than 2,024 kilograms of ketamine and more than 12 tons of caffeine seized in 2022 were destroyed.

In accord with the guidance of the Chairman of the State Administration Council, the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and the Anti-Narcotics Police have stepped up efforts to carry out drug control activities, and large quantities of narcotics and precursor chemicals were seized and destroyed.
