Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Attends Pre-monsoon Tree Planting Ceremony

 

The Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended and took a lead in planting trees at the pre-monsoon tree planting ceremony held at Yan Aung Myin forest reserve in Lewe Township of Dekkhina District in Nay Pyi Taw on 31 May as the 2022 environmental greening activity.

Also present at the ceremony were Vice-Chairman of SAC Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, council members, the secretary and the joint secretary of the SAC, the union chief justice, the chairman of the Union Election Commission, union ministers, the chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, officials and students from the Forestry and Environmental University and basic education schools.

The Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister gave a speech at the ceremony as follows:

  • The 2022 monsoon tree plantation ceremony is held to ensure the sustainability of forest resources, conserve the ecosystem and mobilize the public to participate in forest conservation activities.
  • Conserving the forest and trees is also important for the proper ecosystem and sustainable development of the country and so it should be carried out as a national-level task.
  • By planting trees and conserving them, many benefits can be enjoyed including the greening of the environment and forests and trees and forest eco-systems can provide food and forest products such as wood, bamboo, cane and herbal plants needed by millions of people and adjustments to the climate change.
  • The state has directed forest conservation activities and is promoting tree planting. It was estimated to grow 23,973,051 plants in 28,715 acres of state owned forest area in the 2021 monsoon and to grow about 20 million plants in 24,269 acres this year.
  • The government also implemented systematic forest rings on both sides of roads to green the environment and offer a pleasant travelling experience. In 2021, a total of 278,573 plants were grown in 663 road sections and it is estimated to grow more than 250,000 plants in 859 road sections in the 2022 monsoon period.
  • In addition, once planted, it is not enough and it needs to be maintained to grow. The ministry must take responsibility for the successful growing of trees after planting, and all the people need to cooperate.
  • Tree plantation and forest implementation works are being conducted in a good drive and the timber production was suspended in the mini-budget term of the 2021- 2022FY and the 2022-2023FY. It aims to accelerate natural forest conservation activities. Logs and sawn timbers are banned from exporting and only the finished products are allowed.
  • It is necessary to make Nay Pyi Taw Council Area to be Green City, Clean City and Smart City as well as a model for other regions/states and to work wisely to be green with forests; clean and a beautiful environment in Nay Pyi Taw Council area.  

Then, the Senior General planted the star-flower sapling and Yinma sapling, and the Vice-Senior General planted the ironwood sapling and Pan Mezali sapling at the designated plots. Then, the attendees respectively grew the saplings at designated places.
