Union Minister for Labour U Myint Kyaing attended the Labour Ministers’ Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement Member States during the 110th International Labour Conference which was held on 30 May through videoconferencing.
During the meeting, the Union Minister discussed the following points:
- The State Administration Council has set the five-point roadmap and nine objectives in building a genuine, disciplined, multiparty democratic system, focusing on the economic development of the country through the tripartite cooperation among the government, employers, and employees on creating job opportunities for workers and manufacturing more products with the arrangements of safe workplace.
- A total of K585.472 million was provided as financial benefits for more than 4,028 pregnant women insured workers registered for social security during the COVID-19 outbreak, and K292.570 million was provided for more than 5,125 insured workers who were diagnosed with COVID-19 disease and who needed to be quarantined.
- A total of 1,634,174 insured workers from factories and workshops, which were temporarily closed during the first and second waves of COVID-19, received a total of K70,829.756 million as social security benefits.
Moreover, the Union Minster said that Myanmar will prioritize the interests of workers and protect employers under the law, and urged Non-Aligned Movement Member States to cooperate in labour issues.
