Officials of Yangon City Development Committee and Board of Director U Zin Min Aung Charged Under Anti-Corruption Law

The Anti-Corruption Commission set up an investigation team regarding the complaint against the activities of officials of Yangon City Development Committee. According to the findings of the investigation team:

• Former minister U Han Tun for Agriculture, Livestock and Breeding, Forest and Energy of Yangon Region Government, Yangon ex-mayor U MaungMaungSoe, former vice-mayor U SoeLwin, former secretary DawHlaing Maw Oo and former joint secretary U Than granted a 60-year land lease for more than 68 acres of land in Dagon Myothit township to open a fuel station during their tenure. They failed to calculate the land area at the rate set by Internal Revenue Department.Therefore, it caused over K5,000 million losses of the State budget.
• Regarding coal mining, Ex-mayor U MaungMaungSoe and former joint secretary U Than reduced the coal price to K42,000 per tonne from the original price of K77,000. Therefore, it caused over K550 million losses to the State budget.
• Yangon ex-mayor U MaungMaungSoe, former vice-mayor U SoeLwin, former secretary DawHlaing Maw Oo and former joint secretary U Than did not apply the fixed price of the Internal Revenue Department and reduced the rental fees while the Department of Garden and Playgrounds of YCDC agreed with companies for 21 garden work sites in the 2019-2020 FY. Therefore, the State lost more than K21,000 million.
• Moreover they used the State budget in paying the salaries of City FM staff. And so, it caused more than K70 million losses to the State budget for paying salaries.

Therefore, ex-minister U Han Tun for Agriculture, Livestock and Breeding, Forest and Energy of Yangon Region Government and ex-mayor U MaungMaungSoe were prosecuted under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law while former vice-mayor U SoeLwin, secretary DawHlaing Maw Oo, joint secretary U Than and BOD member U Zin Min Aung under Sections 55/63 of the Anti-Corruption Law at Kyauktada Myoma police station of Yangon region on 26 May. It is reported that legal action is being taken to prosecute against them.
