The sixth Director-General Level Bilateral Meeting between Myanmar and India on Drug Control was hosted by India on 26 May and was attended by the delegation led by Joint-Secretary of the Central Committee Drug Abuse Control, Commander of the Drug Enforcement Police Force, Police Brig-Gen Win Naing through video conferencing at the meeting hall of the Office of the Chief of Drug Enforcement Police Force in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, Police Brig-Gen Win Naing, leader of the Myanmar delegation, highlighted the following points:
- The production of synthetic drugs in the region continues to rise due to the illegal entry of precursor chemicals used in drug production.
- To solve the drug problem, it is necessary to prioritize the control of precursor chemicals which is essential in drug production.
- It is required to enhance the collaboration of neighbouring countries for restriction of chemicals.
The meeting was attended by the Indian delegation led by Director-General Mr.Satya Narayan Pradhan of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the two sides discussed information exchange issues related to local heroin trafficking, factories producing narcotics and psychotropic drugs and secret laboratories, trafficking in methamphetamine, illegal planting of poppy and marijuana in border areas, and matters related to Myanmar hosting the 7th meeting.
