Monitoring and Precaution Measures being Taken for Monkeypox Infectious Disease

 

A coordination meeting on monitoring and precaution measures for Monkeypox infectious disease was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on 23 May. At the meeting, Union Minister Dr. ThetKhaing Win highlighted the following points:

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of an outbreak of Monkeypox in some countries of Africa, America and Europe.
  • As there is an outbreak of chicken pox among children in Myanmar, it is necessary to improve health knowledge of the people not to cause public panic, giving the awareness of the differences and possible causes of Chickenpox, Smallpox and the recent outbreak of Monkeypox in some countries.
  • Although there is a little possibility of Monkeypox in Myanmar in the light of the nature of Monkeypox, it is required to intensify disease surveillance activities on chickenpox and existing communicable diseases.
  • The monkepox virus is transmitted from animals to humans, and the livestock breeding and veterinary sector, environmental conservation sector, and the health sector must be integrated according to the One Health Approach.

It is reported that the health officials who attended the meeting explained the research and lab preparations for Monkeypox infectious disease.
