As it was reported that Sai Sar Aung, a resident of Lashio township of Shan State (North) is reportedly collecting extortion money from people by using name of TNLA on 16 May, acting on a tip-off, local security personnel raided and searched a male-student hostel named “Thu Htet Oo” located in No (10) ward and the offender was found there and arrested along with a mobile phone.
By his own accounts, another associate offender Aung Kyaw Moe, a platoon commander from TNLA insurgent group, who primarily conducted the collection of extortion money, was also arrested with a mobile phone at Royal Ground Hotel in Lashio.
The two arrested offenders reportedly collected a total of Kyats 21.95 million, during a period from October 2021 to 16 May 2022, from gasoline stations, clothing shops, cars/motorcycles showrooms, electronic shops, grocery stores, hotels from Lashio, Mandalay, Kyaukse and Taunggyi towns after making phone calls for 25 times. It is reported that measures are being taken to take necessary legal actions against the two arrested offenders.
