Information Released on Legal Migration, Risk of Illegal Migration to Thailand

Myanmar workers working in Thailand through illegal brokers, but not through legal foreign employment agencies, have to pay exorbitant fees and stay in Thailand illegally. The workers are facing certain difficulties such as lack of full employment benefits and being arrested in Thailand for illegal work during inspections by the relevant authorities.

90 migrants were arrested in Sai Yok police station of Kanchanaburi province for illegal entry into Thailand. Car accidents took place for six times in an attempt to enter Thailand illegally, leaving 19 Myanmar migrant workers injured and 19 others dead.

  • Myanmar citizens who want to go illegally to Thailand to get a job are more likely to face various kinds of difficulties such as risk of being   trafficked; human rights abuse; lack of legal protection and other forms of human rights violations.
  • By going abroad legally, workers can enjoy benefits such as full legal protection as per workers’ rights; safety from being trafficked; freedom of movement in the host country and workplace security.

Information required to work abroad, procedures and a list of licensed foreign employment agencies can be accessed on the Ministry of Labour’s website www.mol.gov.mm and also available on the Department of Labour’s Safe Migration Facebook Page and Safe Migration Telegram Channel.
