Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win Delivers an Address at the Meeting with Departmental Officials of Mon State and Taninthayi Region

The Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, delivered speech at the meeting with administrative members of state and region, district and township level departmental officials of Mon State and Taninthayi Region on 4 May.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chairman of the SAC Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) stressed the following points:

• In reviewing the GDP or achieving the value from production and services, progress of a state can be roughly assessed.
• As Mon State’s budget needs deficiency annually, the Union supplementary budget is allotted. All personnel are urged to educate the people to participate in the development of the public-based economic sector under the leadership of the chief minister and departments concerned with reducing the Union’s aid with increased income from all industries in the State.
• However, it cannot be done by individually. All service personnel and people from all walks of life should participate in the tasks through good suggestions for all measures.
• Regarding the land utilization in Mon State, more than 700,000 acres of land of over 1.5 million acres of cultivable lands are placed under mixed cropping and double cropping. Cultivation tasks should be undertaken on the vacant lands for increasing income of the agricultural sector for Mon State.
• As the main product of Mon State is rubber, the local people can earn the increased income from the manufacturing of value-added products made of rubber instead of the sale of raw rubber. Officials need to arrange the market for value-added products of the state.
• Kyaikhtiyoe and Kyaikkhami mid-stream pagodas, Setse beach resort, the Death Railway in Thanbyuzayat, the war cemetery, ancient Christian Churches and ancient cities in Mon State can attract the local and foreign travellers.
• We are all civil servants serving the country. It is necessary to act in accordance with the rules and regulations and procedures by respective departments.
• Regarding the education sector, Degree Colleges, Universities and basic education schools will be reopened soon and it is necessary to plan in advance for the safety of students and teachers to study peacefully.
• In addition to the teachers, parents and students, the government and security forces should also be aware of the dangers of terrorists who do not want the education and HR development of the country and need to work together to prevent these matters.
• The main agricultural crop in Taninthayi Region is palm oil. If the region changes the crude palm oil to the commercial oil in the region, the local people will have oil sufficiency and earn increased income. Hence, officials need to arrange the infrastructures for producing the commercial oil from crude palm oil through initiatives.
• Taninthayi Region is plentiful in rare water re­sources, coral reefs and natural beauties to attract trav­ellers. Efforts must be made to generate good-income jobs for local people and undertake development in systematically carrying out fishery and agricultural tasks.
• All service personnel are urged to strive for development of the country from the benefit of area, states and regions.

During the meeting, the Vice-Chairman of the SAC Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) heard reports on the conditions of region and state including administration, economic and social measures presented by chief ministers of relevant region and state, through Powerpoint presentation and then he asked for further information and attended to the needs.

• It is necessary to arrange the market for value-added products of the state and tourism service is also the potential business in Mon State.
