Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Addresses at National-Level Food Safety Policy Introduction and Circulation Ceremony

 

A ceremony to introduce and circulate the National-Level Food Safety Policy was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on 27 April with the presence of the Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win. During the ceremony, the Vice-Senior General stressed the following points:

  • The SAC is striving for national development with its two national objectives: national prosperity and food abundance.
  • The initial food producers need to produce quality food products made of agricultural and livestock materials. They have to increase the production of quality value-added products through small, medium and heavy industries.
  • Besides, systematic packaging of international standard is necessary for global market competition.
  • Moreover, technology and recognition certificates are being provided for them to follow the good agriculture practices-GAP. 
  • Across the nation, there are 27 livestock breeding zones and five control zones for mouth and foot disease. Measures are being taken for breeding in accord with good practices, production, scrutiny and issuance of recognition certificates.
  • The Department of Fisher­ies is accelerating the production of marine products meeting the international standard.
  • It is important for the public to have access to good quality and fresh food produced by the agriculture, livestock and fishery industries.
  • Foods such as coffee, noodles and pickled tea leaves produced from Myanmar, are being taken action to export.
  • Branches of the Department of Food and Drug Administration in collaboration with relevant departments across the nation search inappropriate foodstuffs for the people in the market on a monthly basis.
  • Only a transparent and strong national food safety policy with a view to long-term interests can adopt modern laws and policies in line with the policy.
  • As there will be specific assign of duties in respective areas according to this policy, food related health disadvantages could be prevented, and a trusted food market could be built as well.
  • Therefore, all the people who are involved in implementing the national-level food safety policy and officials concerned, are urged to work together with a sense of taking responsibility and accountability until success of the tasks.

The Vice-Chairman of the SAC Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win took a tour of the exhibition on introduction and circulation of national-level food safety policy and viewed the Food and Drug Administration Mobile Laboratory. The ceremony was attended by the SAC members Daw Aye Nu Sein, U Moung Har and Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Union Ministers, deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council members, permanent secretaries, the chief of Myanmar Police Force, directors general and officials.
