Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut Discuss with Justice Minister of Thailand on Bilateral Drug Control Cooperation

 

At the invitation of Justice Minister of Thailand Mr Somsak Thepsutin, a delegation led by Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, the Chairman Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) went to Bangkok and discussed with him to promote the Myanmar-Thai drug control cooperation.

At the meeting, the two sides cordially discussed joint drug control issues between the two countries, the success of the anti-drug special operation -  Operation 1511/22 and plans for further cooperation. They also observed the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB)’s management procedures for confiscating drug-related assets, the use of technology in the anti-drug activities, and the auction of seized assets.

Moreover, a delegation led by Joint Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and Commander of Anti-Drug Police Force Police Brig-Gen Win Naing, who accompanied the Union Minister during the trip to Thailand, attended the 23rd Myanmar-Thailand Joint Drug Control Meeting on 22 April in Bangkok. The meeting discussed matters related to the drug situation in the region, control of the illegal entry of chemicals into the Golden Triangle region, prevention of the spread of drugs to the region and beyond, identification and arrest of suspects wanted by both countries, capacity building of drug-control offices and education campaigns on narcotics among young people. The meeting also approved that Myanmar will host the 24th Myanmar-Thailand Joint Drug Control Meeting.
