On 22 April while the security forces led by Police sub-lieutenant Ye Win Naing together with militiamen were doing security duty, a car with no driver crashed and exploded at the gateway on Myanmar side of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. (1). Due to the bomb blast, the Police sub-lieutenant got fire-burn injuries in his right temple and forehead as well as minor abrasions to the back of his head and around his body. The Police lance-corporal Win Thein Oo also got minor injuries of lacerations to his left forearm. Both of them were reportedly transported to Myawady District Hospital.
Due to the car bomb blast, the car itself was completely destroyed and another vehicle parking near the bridge was also caught fire that was later put out by two fire-engines. The roof of the gateway on Myanmar side of the Friendship Bridge No. (1) and the Immigration building as well as the window glasses of the houses on the left side of the bridge were also destroyed. It is reported that the amount of loss comes under the scrutiny.
Some EAOs and terrorists are making destructive acts on State-owned and private-owned buildings as well as residential houses of non-military targets. As those terrorists are carrying out motiveless bomb attacks on roads and bridges which facilitate the bilateral trade, the entire people are facing problems in transport and communication sector.
The team led by the Police Lieutenant Colonel Ye Min Thu, the Commander of Myawady District Police Force, the team led by the Police Major Myo Min Zaw, the Commander of Township Police Force and the team led by Lieutenant Kaung Khant Hein of Infantry Regiment (275) has inspected the scene and are urgently undertaking necessary measures to arrest the terrorist who committed the car bomb attack.
- Since a bomb attack using a car was conducted at the gateway of Myanmar side of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No.(1) in Myawady town, two police force members doing security duty got minor injuries, and vehicles and building were damaged.
