The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech on peace to Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) and people on 22 April 2022.

The Speech Delivered by Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services

7th Waning of Tagu 1384 ME

22 April 2022

Esteemed Ethnic Armed Organizations and People,

The government and the Tatmadaw have firmly granted for building the Union country based on democracy and federal system that EAOs have been demanding in successive eras. The Diamond Jubilee Independence Day falls on coming 4 January 2023. Current events prove that ethnic people have not thoroughly enjoyed the essence of 75-year independence yet. The root cause depends on the ethnic armed conflicts based on different opinions.

Only when we solve it will the people firmly enjoy the essence of democracy and independence. Hence, I have told that 2022 is set as the year of peace, and we will strive to end the armed conflicts across the nation.

As it is necessary to implement such a process practically, I invite leaders of the EAOs to hold the meeting. I myself will meet with all groups. And then, the representatives who are in the capacity of the State Administration Council members will hold talks with them.

If necessary, further talks will take place. The leaders themselves and two members from each EAO are to attend the talks. Those candidates who attend the talks must be enlisted no later than 9 May 2022.

After holding coordination between both sides, I’d like to say that the date of the talks will be set. We all will join hands together in holding talks honestly and transparently to enable all ethnic people to enjoy the essence of peace and development.

I’d like to urge all to cooperate with us to serve the interests of all citizens of the Union.

Thank you all
