Union Ministers Receive Cambodian Delegation led by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Head of Office of Special Envoy of ASEAN Chair

U Ko Ko Hlaing, Union Minister for International Cooperation and Dr Thet Thet Khaing, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement received the Cambodian delegation led by H.E Dr Kung Phoak, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Head of the office of the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair at on 21 April at the respective ministries in Nay Pyi Taw. 

During the call, U Ko Ko Hlaing said that:

  • Myanmar expects patience, understanding and strong support from ASEAN for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. As Myanmar has prioritized the policy of no one left behind and conducting vaccination programmes for EAOs as well, and therefore, all of the works and initiatives that come from ASEAN and External Partners should be in line with the process and framework of Myanmar’s Government.

The Cambodian Secretary of State and Head of the office of the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair stressed that:

  • He expressed sincere appreciation to Myanmar’s Government for the arrangement of the visit and for candid and frank discussions at the meetings. He also informed that Cambodia respects Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and has been seeking for all possible means to assist Myanmar, with no intention to interfere in other countries’ domestic problems. He then said that Cambodia has a similar historical background to Myanmar and understands the complexity of internal problems.

During the call between Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khaing and the Cambodian Secretary of State and Head of the office of the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair:

  • As regards the matters relating to the Phase-2 provision of Humanitarian Assistance by ASEAN to Myanmar, the coordination meeting which will be hosted in Cambodia in May and the matters of humanitarian assistance being implemented by the National Disaster Management Committee were frankly discussed.  

          It is reported that Union Ministers together with permanent secretaries, deputy directors-general and officials attended the calls.

 

  • During the call, U Ko Ko Hlaing said that all of the works and initiatives that come from ASEAN and External Partners should be in line with the process and framework of Myanmar’s Government as Myanmar has prioritized the policy of no one left behind and conducting vaccination programmes for EAOs as well.
