Since the group including some leaders of KNU/KNLA, who want to break NCA and support the terrorism together with the PDF terrorist groups are hiding in Lay Kay Kyaw new town, Myawady township of Kayin State under humanitarian grounds and backing the terrorists acts, the Tatmadaw conducted necessary security measures in the area in the last week of December 2021 to ensure local people live in peace.
As a result of the security measures taken by the Tatmadaw in the area, people are living in peaceful environment. At the time, it was reported by a conscientious local that the terrorist groups were gathering in the areas of Trigan Gone (local name), Lin Yone Gone (local name) and Yathae Gu village taking cover of civilian residences to carry out violent acts. Therefore, the Tatmadaw military columns advanced to the Lay Kay Kaw new town to conduct necessary security operations. On the way, the terrorist groups ambushed the military columns after taking covering of the civilian houses in the No. (6) ward.
Accordingly, the military columns had to take reinforcement and launch strikes against the enemy targets and bases using close air support following the Rule of Engagement, ROE. As a result, the terrorists fled in disarray and some military officers and ranks were also injured during the clashes. Following the thorough search in the Lay Kay Kaw new town, security found the bases, where terrorist groups lived, fortified with shooting and communication trenches as well as the places providing medical treatments to injured terrorists and shooting sites taking cover of public houses.
Although the Tatmadaw is exerting efforts to attain perpetual peace following the provisions described in NCA, some EAOs are breaching the NCA provisions, and even doing the acts that disrupt the eternal peace, and community peace and stability. Accordingly, it is reported that the Tatmadaw will continue necessary security measures.
