26th ASEAN Finance Ministers and Related Meetings Held Virtually

          Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein attended the 26th ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting (26th AFMM), the 8th Joint Meeting of the ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (AFMGM) and other related meetings virtually hosted by Cambodia from Ministry of Planning and Finance in Nay Pyi Taw on 8 April. At 26th AFMM, Union Minister addressed the following points:

  • Regarding the responses to the impact of COVID-19 epidemic, it has been addressed by individual countries or by the ASEAN region as whole or by the combined efforts of international financial institutions.
  • Myanmar has participated in the process of ratifying the ninth round of commitments on the liberalization of financial services in relation to the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Service.
  • In this year, measures will be taken to revive the country's economy hoping that the current fiscal year would see a moderate growth rate due to the downward trend of COVID-19 infections, increase in the vaccination coverage, betterment of political stability and the increase in domestic investment in the country.

Other related meetings included the meeting of ASEAN + 3 Macroeconomic Research Office with ASEAN Finance and Central Bank Governors and international financial institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund; Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank; meetings of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the US-ASEAN Business Council and EU-ASEAN Business Council were also held. The meeting was reportedly attended by Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from ASEAN countries as well as ASEAN Secretary-General, and Presidents and senior officials of international financial institutions.
