Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Meets Coffee Entrepreneurs in Pyin Oo Lwin

The Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met coffee entrepreneurs of Pyin Oo Lwin in Mandalay Region on 10 April and discussed the matters on coffee growing.

During the meeting, the officials reported on the initiation of coffee project in Pyin Oo Lwin, land use and field inspection first. Then, coffee entrepreneurs reported on progress of work and calls for government sponsorship in providing the needs.

In response to the reports, the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister highlighted the following points:

  • As the abuse of land permitted for growing coffee and the failure to establish plantations can hurt the actual coffee growers. Hence, work must be done in accord with the rules and procedures.
  • There are two forms of growing coffee: shade-grown coffee and sun-grown coffee. Measures were taken to grow shade-grown coffee in Pyin Oo Lwin in order to prevent climate change and to make the environment green in Myanmar.
  • The government will offer assistance to produce high quality products and to gain access to the market. Further, relevant ministries will take measures to provide assistance for necessary investment. Therefore, it is necessary for entrepreneurs to exert efforts to achieve genuine success on growing coffee and penetrate Myanmar coffee brand into the global market.
  • The government and the Tatmadaw have been promoting agriculture and livestock sectors and measures are being taken in the entire country to distribute local products to the domestic and foreign markets as value-added items and contribute for the development of socio-economic life of the people and economic prosperity of the country.
  • As Pyin Oo Lwin is a colourful town with cool climate and shadowy trees and flowering plants, it is always busy with domestic and foreign tourists in all three seasons. Therefore, it is necessary to promote tourism by allowing tourists to visit coffee plantations.
  • Local residents are urged to exert efforts based on the spirit of self-help approach for one’s own town and region systematically; to carry out conservation works for historic ancient buildings and to preserve the internationally known fine historical background of the town.

Present together with the SAC Chairman Prime Minister were SAC members, Union ministers, Mandalay region Chief Minister, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Central Command commander, region government members, officials of Pyin Oo Lwin district and coffee entrepreneurs.
