Efforts Made to Increase the Export Volume of Fishery Products to Foreign Countries

As the large amount of crabs come from the Thandwe, Sittwe and Kyaukphyu districts in Rakhine state, fishes, prawns and soft-shell crabs packed at the fish processing plants from the areas have been increasingly exported to foreign countries.

With the aims of developing the fishery business which is the primary income resource in Taninthayi region and emerging a fish-market with international standards as well, a US$300 million worth project is underway to build a big Fish Auction Market with international standards in Sandawit village tract from Myeik township by 2028.

The project implementation period is set to be seven years and it will create tens of thousands of job opportunities for locals. The project is divided into four parts: port for loading and unloading fishery products; fish cold storage rooms, fish processing plants; and the housings and related facilities, and the area of further expansion.
