Opening Ceremony of Puppet Festival of Lancang-Mekong Held

The opening ceremony of the Puppet Festival of Lancang-Mekong was virtually organized at Mya Nan Bon San Yadanabon Hall in Mandalay on 30 March. The ceremony was joined by Union Minister of Religious Affairs and Culture, Mandalay Region Social Affairs Minister, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, officials of Foreign Affairs of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Committee, the Lancang-Mekong Puppet Festival Organizing Committee and puppetry experts of Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam

The Puppet Festival of Lancang-Mekong was organized in virtual system by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture and the National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay) from 30 to 31 March. In the ceremony, the puppeteers from Myanmar traditional yokethay dance entertained the ‘Natkadaw’ (medium) dance, ‘Zawgyi’ dance, ‘marionette and man dance’ and yokethay dance with Lancang-Mekong honorary songs.

At the ceremony, puppeteers from each of six Mekong-Lancang countries entertained their performance, demonstrated their arts of marionette and read the papers on the subject. It is reported that they also discussed on the measures to improve the quality of arts of puppet by preserving it as well as to promote the public awareness on the traditional puppet dance.
