Arrested Offenders Prosecuted by Military Tribunals and Given Respective Sentences

Zaw Min Oo (aka) Son Yae (aka) Kywat and his wife Kyin Kyin Hmway (aka) Pyo Pyo living in Mahabandula road, Shwepyitha township of Yangon region, for committing unlawful activities of actively participating in riotous protests from February to September 2021 and mine explosion attacks by organizing a terrorist group; and Sithu Phyo living in Padauk Shwewar street, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) township, for contacting with terrorist groups and collecting donation cash to support them, were prosecuted by Military Tribunal and sentenced to ‘life-imprisonment’ under the Section 50 (I) of Counter Terrorism Law on 23 December.

Chit Ko Ko (aka) Nagga, Myo Zin Aung (aka) Ko Myo and Nay Thway were prosecuted by Military Tribunal and sentenced to ‘death penalty’ under the Section 50 (A)/54 of Counter Terrorism Law on 23 December for shooting the security forces and attacking them with IEDs in No (60) ward, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) township of Yangon region on 9 September.

Regarding the offenders who are still at large, arrest warrants were issued under the Section 87 and 88 of the Code of Criminal Procedures.

23 types of crimes to be adjudicated by Military Tribunal in the townships under Martial Law order has been released as an appendix and effective and prompt legal actions reportedly have been taken against those who committed the crimes.

  • Three offenders were sentenced to ‘life-imprisonment’ under the Section 50 (I) of Counter Terrorism Law for committing violent acts of actively participating in riotous protests, mine explosion attacks by organizing a terrorist group.
  • Other three offenders were sentenced to ‘death penalty’ under the Section 50 (A)/54 of Counter Terrorism Law on 23 December for shooting the security forces and attacking them with IEDs.
