The opening ceremony of the Bawdikan Bridge in Taninthayi region constructed by Department of Bridge, Ministry of Construction, was held on 24 March under the COVID-19 rules and regulations, marking the 77thAnniversary of Armed Forces Day. The member of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Commander of the Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Saw Than Hlaing and departmental officials, members of social organization, local elders, local people and invited guests attended the ceremony.
During the ceremony, the member of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun stressed the following points:
- The Phayagyi-Mawlamyine-Myeik-Bokpyin-Kawthoung Road (ASEAN Highway No 112) was built in meeting road standards of the ASEAN Highway with the aim of facilitating smooth flow of goods, developing socio-economic development and enhancing tourism in the region.
- In such doing, it will be connected with the GreaterMekong Sub-region Economic Corridor, and this will contribute to the facilitation ofthe flow of goods in the ASEAN region, creation of job opportunities in the region and the many benefits to regional development.
- The Dawei Special Economic Zone, which will be implemented as one of thebiggest economic zones in the Taninthayi Region will be connected with Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam via sea route, railways and roads.
The 787 ft long bridge with the foundation constructed with Bored Pile and the superstructure made of PC Girder and R.C slab was built across Ngawun Creek and is located on the Taninthayi-Mawtaung Road in Myeik district of Taninthayi township of Tanintharyi region. The load capacity of the bridge is 60 tons. It is reported that a total of 11 bridges including this bridge have been opened during the term of the State Administration Council.
