Appreciation to Myanmar Delegation who Attended the Public Hearings related to Preliminary Objections raised by Myanmar at International Court of Justice (ICJ)

 

The Myanmar delegation led by the Agent of Myanmar, Union Minister for International Cooperation H.E. U Ko Ko Hlaing, the Alternate Agent of Myanmar, Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Attorney-General Dr. Thi Da Oo and the international counsels and advocates attended the public hearing relating to the preliminary objections raised by Myanmar concerning the application filed by the Gambia on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) alleging the Republic of the Union of Myanmar of violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide at the ICJ, The Hague, the Netherlands from 21 to 28 February 2022.

It has been observed that the Agent of Myanmar, Union Minister for International Cooperation H.E. U Ko Ko Hlaing and the international counsels and advocates: Dr. Christopher Staker; Professor Stefan Talmon; and Professor Robert Kolb made effective arguments before the Court from the legal perspective that the Court lacks jurisdiction and/or The Gambia’s Application is inadmissible.

The State Administration Council expresses appreciation to the members of the Myanmar delegation for their tireless and commendable efforts in defending the interests of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and its people with their legal expertise, and to those who assisted and supported Myanmar delegation, well-wishers, professionals, the members of Sangha and people who welcomed back Myanmar delegation, civil societies and political parties.

The State Administration Council further expresses gratitude to Dr. Christopher Staker, Professor Stefan Talmon and Professor Robert Kolb for their outstanding legal work at the Court with dedication and professionalism.
