PDF Terrorists Hiding in Sagaing Region Arrested and Arms, Ammunition and Related Items Seized

PDF terrorists are hiding in Yinmarbin and Kyunhla townships in Sagaing region and conducting destructive acts: persuading people to do violent acts; killing civil servants and innocent civilians; launching bomb and arson attacks at public places; extorting money from local residents and travelers. As some conscientious residents provided the reports on the terrorists’ acts to security forces, security forces members went to there to search and arrest terrorists on the following dates:

  • On 28 February, security forces members exchanged fire with the PDF terrorists hiding in a monastery of the Thabyayaye village in Yinmarbin township and the latter ran away in disarray. Then, security forces members seized some dead bodies of terrorists, five homemade mortars, seven shells of homemade mortars, 45 assorted homemade guns, 157 assorted bullet rounds, nine homemade grenades, 78 barrels for homemade gun (being underway), one hand generated electric generators,  gun powder, other related items, two vehicles, one motorcycle and a training ground at the scene.
  • On 1 March, security forces members exchanged fire with the PDF terrorists hiding in the Wailamu village in Kyunhla township and the latter ran away in disarray. Then, security forces members seized seven assorted homemade guns, four homemade mortars, 108 M-22 bullet rounds, two magazines, one hand-grenades, 68 homemade grenades, 16 assorted homemade mines, other related items and three walkie-talkies around the scene.

As terrorists are living in some villages and conducting destructive acts, residents who want peaceful living cannot accept terrorists and secretly provide reports of terrorists’ movements, security forces members are stepping up necessary security tasks in line with the ROE based on the reports provided.

Under cover of non-military targets of religious, educational buildings and residential houses, terrorists open fire on security forces in addition to taking position at the aforementioned buildings. Such doings of terrorists are considered as committing of war crimes, violating the Geneva Conventions and International Law. Effective legal actions will be taken against terrorists under the Counter-Terrorism Law, the Panel Code and the existing laws. It is reported that security forces members will continue to carry out the counter-terrorism tasks, joining hands together with the people.
