The opening ceremony of pioneering project of cross-checking the ground population to ensure no-error in Union Election Commission-UEC’s basic voter lists was held at the office of Nay Pyi Taw territory election sub-commission on 14 February. During the event, UEC Chairman stressed the following points:
- UEC is making necessary preparations to hold free and fair multi-party democracy general election in accord with 2008 State Constitution following the completion of measures as per the provisions of emergency period.
- As every citizen can enjoy the rights to be elected and elect others, citizens have to vote as per relevant laws.
- Among 15 regions and states including Union Territory, basic voter lists have already been prepared in Taninthayi region, Mon state, Ayeyarwady region, and Union Territory.
- Ministry of Labour and Immigration is now granting Citizenship Scrutiny Cards to those in needs under Pankhin project and making measures to ensure everyone who has rights to hold the cards as per law.
- The actuate data of population can be attained by doing the cross-checks of ground population by General Administration Department.
- Checking voter lists will be carried out by the combined teams comprising staff officers from UEC, in-charges from Ministry of Labour and Immigration, ward/ village administrators, hundred-houses elders, ten-houses elders, ward/ village clerks.
- In doing so, the voter lists of regions/ states, districts and townships will be cross-checked using computer technology.
