The Republic of the Union of Myanmar State Administration Council released pardon orders to reduce the jail sentence of inmates from respective prisons and jails and other orders of withdrawing of ongoing criminal proceedings against ethnic armed organization members in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee Union Day, which falls on 12 February 2022 and ensuring perpetual peace as follows:
- Pursuant to the order No. 14/2022, the jail sentence for Daw Nan Khin Htwe Myint who has been imprisoned at Hpa-an prison was reduced by half.
- Pursuant to the order No. 15/2022, among prisoners who have been sentenced in various prisons for violating the existing laws, 814 prisoners, who have already served their sentences in good discipline were pardoned from their remaining sentences.
- Pursuant to the order No. 16/2022, seven Sri Lankan people, who were jailed at Insein prison were granted pardons on the condition that “if they commit another offence, they will continue to serve the remaining sentences” on bilateral relations and humanitarian grounds.
- The order No. 17/2022 was released to withdraw the ongoing criminal proceedings against AA members and 46 subordinates and to release them.
The inmates freed from Insein Prison under Sub-section (1) of Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedures were systematically released after checking with their prison records and transported to their respective townships with the vehicles arranged by the Yangon region government.
