Detection of Further Omicron Cases in Myanmar

Among the laboratory samples of the COVID-19 infected people returning from foreign countries through Relief Flights, laboratory samples suspected to be Omicron were sent to the National Health Laboratory on 3 February 2022 and the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron was found in 28 laboratory samples.

Until 6 February 2022, there are a total of 348 SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron cases: 264 cases were detected from returnees from abroad and 84 cases were detected from people infected locally.

The 264 Omicron cases are 244 Myanmar nationals and 20 foreigners-40 returned from the UAE, 54 returned from Malaysia, 79 returned from India, 21 from Thailand, 18 from Philippines, 34 from Singapore, two from Russia, 14 from Korea, one from Japan and one from Indonesia by Relief Flights. There are 84 Omicron cases of local infection including 48 residents from Tamu township, 20 from Kalay township and 16 from Yangon.

  • 28 cases of SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron were detected among laboratory samples which were conducted on 3 February 2022.
