When laboratory samples of COVID-19 infected people who returned by Relief Flights from abroad, other samples of local clusters of COVID-19 virus and samples of suspected patients were sent to the National Health Laboratory on 2 February 2022, 10 cases of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant were detected.
Ten people who have tested for the Omicron variant are COVID-19 confirmed patients from a factory in Mingaladon township of Yangon region.
Until 2 February 2022, there are a total of 320 SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant cases: 236 cases were detected from returnees from abroad and 84 cases were detected from people infected locally.
The 236 Omicron cases are 216 Myanmar nationals and 20 foreigners-35 returned from the UAE, 49 returned from Malaysia, 78 returned from India, 21 from Thailand, 18 from Philippines, 22 from Singapore, two from Russia, ten from Korea and one from Japan by Relief Flights. There are 84 Omicron cases of local infection including 48 residents from Tamu township, 20 from Kalay township and 16 from Yangon.
