National Defence and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Holds Meeting 1/2022

The 1/2022 meeting of the National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) of the Republic of Union of Myanmar held at the meeting hall of the State Administration Council Chairman’s Office in Nay Pyi Taw on 31 January.

Present at the meeting were Acting President U Myint Swe, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U T Khun Myat, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Defence General Mya Tun Oo, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, specially invited Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe and Joint-Secretary LtGen Ye Win Oo. Vice President U Henry Van Thio submitted his leave of absence request on health grounds.

During the meeting, the member of the Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services asked for extending the declared period of the State of Emergency with reasons as follows:

  • The situations on one-year responsibilities of the State Administration Council.
  • The matters related to changing of peaceful demonstration to the armed insurrection after the Tatmadaw has taken the State responsibilities.
  • The matters relating to the sanctions of the international community and efforts to develop in the economic sector.
  • The situations on destruction of religion and language and measures being taken to develop the sector.
  • The matters relating to the implementation of five-point road map and nine objectives of the State Administration Council and constant acceleration of preventing COVID-19.
  • The conditions on the Tatmadaw will continue to take the State responsibilities depending on the current political situation of the country.

After Acting President U Myint Swe reviewed the current conditions of the country, he made an announcement for extending six months period of the State of Emergency to National Defence and Security Council according to the reports of the attendees.
