Press Release on Outcomes of the Video Conferencing between Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister and Cambodian Prime Minister

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Kingdom of Cambodia issued a press release regarding the four-point appeals that were discussed at the meeting between the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN through Video Conferencing on 26 January.

Outcomes of the Meeting between Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 26 January 2022, via Videoconferencing

On 26 January 2022, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, had a videoconference with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as a follow-up to the visit of Samdech Techo Prime Minister to Myanmar, on 7-8 January 2022.

Samdech Techo HUN SEN and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing discussed extensively on developments in ASEAN following the recent visit of Samdech Techo HUN SEN to Myanmar, and on how to further advance the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus of ASEAN based on the provisions of the ASEAN Charter. They shared the view on the need to make more efforts to improve the situation in Myanmar.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister expressed appreciation to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing for reaffirming his full support for Cambodia's Chairmanship of ASEAN. Samdech Techo HUN SEN informed Senior General Min Aung Hlaing that, as the Chair of ASEAN, Cambodia is deeply concerned over the persistent violence in Myanmar and made four-point appeals to the Senior General as follows:

  1. The Five-Point Consensus as agreed at the ASEAN Leaders' Meeting on 24 April 2021 represents ASEAN’s shared resolve to bring normalcy to Myanmar. Therefore, persistent and concerted efforts to implement the Five-Point Consensus should remain a priority.
  2. Requesting the Myanmar authorities concerned to facilitate the first visit to Myanmar by the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair as soon as possible.
  3. All parties in Myanmar, including the State Administration Council, should exercise with utmost restraint, cease violence, and endeavor to achieve a ceasefire in order to engender a process of dialogue for a peaceful solution.
  4. Requesting for full cooperation in support of the ASEAN efforts to bring humanitarian relief to all the people in Myanmar who are in need of assistance the most.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reassured Samdech Techo HUN SEN that Myanmar is committed to work with Cambodia as the ASEAN chair to ensure a successful year. Samdech Techo HUN SEN and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing agreed to continue engaging in candid discussions on matters of mutual interests.
