Vaccination Process Being Accelerated in COVID-19 Prevention and Control Activities

As the vaccination process is a major task in undertaking COVID-19 prevention and control activities, the Ministry of Health is emphasizing the measures of COVID-19 vaccination in regions and states during the tenure of State Administration Council. COVID-19 vaccines are being given daily to people as per the targeted groups of 18 years and above. In a bid to secure adequate COVID-19 vaccines during the tenure of State Administration Council, certain efforts have been made to purchase the required vaccines from foreign countries and also receive vaccines as a donation from friendly countries. Therefore, in addition to the targeted groups of 18 years and above, University students, students aged 12 years and above, and displaced persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19 over the targeted scheduled plan since January 2022. Health workers and people in need are also getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as booster (Third Dose).

The Nippon Foundation of Japan donated two million doses of the Covaxin COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar and the second batch of one million doses arrived on 23 January: The Ministry of Health received a total of 46.1 million of COVID-19 vaccines purchased from abroad and a total of 16.4 million doses as donations, totaling 62.5 million doses. The government vaccinated people against COVID-19 using the vaccines in regions and states as follows:

· 19,083 people in total have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as booster (Third Dose) in regions and states from 1 to 25 January.

· A total of 182 students attending in Universities/ College/ Degree College and training schools of regions and states have been vaccinated against COVID-19 from 18 to 25 January.

· A total of 1,417,245 students aged 12 years and above from Basic Education Middle and High schools in respective regions and states have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 121,658 students as first dose on 25 January.

· A total of 17,922 local people taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 19,215 people as first dose on 25 January.

· A total of 22,773 Bengali people taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 36,374 people as first dose on 25 January.

· As of 25 January, 21.8 million people in total have been vaccinated against COVID-19. About 18.4 million people have received two-time full doses of the vaccine and 3.4 million people have received the first doses. 40.25 million people in total have been inoculated against COVID-19 in Myanmar.

· The figure of Omicron cases has risen to 183 in total in Myanmar up to 25 January 2022. The 181 Omicron cases are those who returned from abroad and other two are the family members contacting with the infected persons. 181 returnees from abroad by Relief Flights are 165 Myanmar nationals and 16 foreigners- 33 returned from the UAE, 37 returned from Malaysia, 75 returned from India, 10 from Thailand, 12 from Philippines and eight from Singapore, two from Russia and four from Korea.

The Ministry of Health is conducting COVID-19 tests regularly, 220 new cases of COVID-19 were found from testing a total of 11,236 samples and the infected rates are 1.96 percent on 25 January. Up to 25 January 2022, a total of 534,383 cases were found from testing a total of 6,294,296 samples and death toll reached 19,310.

Therefore, the students attending in Universities/ College/ Degree College and training schools, students aged 12 years and above, local people and Bengalis taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state are being vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Up to 25 January 2022, a total of 534,383 cases were found from testing a total of 6,294,296 samples and death toll reached 19,310. The infection rate on 25 January was 1.96 percent.
