Vaccination Process Being Accelerated in COVID-19 Prevention and Control Activities

As the vaccination process is a major task in undertaking COVID-19 prevention and control activities, the Ministry of Health is emphasizing the measures of COVID-19 vaccination in regions and states during the tenure of State Administration Council. COVID-19 vaccines are being given daily to people as per the targeted groups of 18 years and above. In a bid to secure adequate COVID-19 vaccines during the tenure of State Administration Council, certain efforts have been made to purchase the required vaccines from foreign countries and also receive vaccines as a donation from friendly countries. Therefore, in addition to the targeted groups of 18 years and above, University students, students aged 12 years and above, and displaced persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19 over the targeted scheduled plan since January 2022. Health workers and people in need are also getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as booster (Third Dose).

  • A total of 18,971 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as booster (Third Dose) in regions and states from 1 to 24 January.
  • A total of 135 students attending in Universities/ College/ Degree College and training schools of regions and states have been vaccinated against COVID-19 from 18 to 24 January.
  • A total of 1,413,874 students aged 12 years and above from Basic Education Middle and High schools in respective regions and states have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 124,160 students as first dose on 24 January.
  • A total of 17,922 local people taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 19,215 people as first dose on 24 January.
  • A total of 22,773 Bengali people taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 36,374 people as first dose on 24 January.
  • A total of 476,807 people aged 18 years and above from 26 townships of Myanmar border areas have been vaccinated against COVID-19 as second dose and 528,689 people as first dose on 24 January.
  • As of 24 January, 21.8 million people in total have been vaccinated against COVID-19. About 18.3 million people have received two-time full doses of the vaccine and 3.5 million people have received the first doses. 40 million people in total have been inoculated against COVID-19 in Myanmar.

It is reported that the Ministry of Health is speeding up the activities of COVID-19 prevention and control activities. In this regard, the Ministry is reportedly making all-round efforts including preparing quarantine and treatment centres, necessary medications and oxygen by cooperating with relevant ministers, local authorities, generous donors and volunteers.

  • During the tenure of the State Administration Council, the COVID-19 vaccination processes are being accelerated and the students attending in Universities/ College/ Degree College and training schools, local people and Bengalis taking shelter in IDP camps of Rakhine state, people aged 18 years and above from 26 townships of Myanmar border areas are being vaccinated against COVID-19.
